PolyWhey® started as a collaboration between Vermont Natural Coatings and farmers, furniture makers and University of Vermont scientists to expand the value of Vermont’s agriculture and forestry industries.

PolyWhey® has emerged as a new coatings science, creating a category of wood finish with the durability of oil-based finishes and the advantages of waterborne finishes with none of the disadvantages of either. The durability of a wood finish is determined by the strength of its cross linkers. Polymerized whey proteins provide much stronger cross linking than other wood finishes. PolyWhey® uses these proteins instead of toxic ingredients found in traditional wood finish. The result is a lasting, beautiful finish that is safe for people, pets and the environment.

PolyWhey’s patented formula harnesses the power of whey protein, a byproduct of cheese making, and uses these proteins to replace the toxic ingredients traditionally found in wood finish. The result is a naturally durable, safe and easy-to-use finish that has established the industries highest performance and environmental standards.
